Ode to a Lady

She keep passing me by

I try to search her eyes

Slanting to sides

Of street corners

Green steal tracks

Urban rats

Could I be the star in her eye

Always searching for the next guy

We watch her on pretty sunny days

Swaying down the street

I run outside just to see

If she will say hi to me

Sweet lady

Lonely eyed

I think she is searching for her colored man

The Chocolate'

The brothas

Why not me mommie

Morena

Senorita

You keep passing me by

Everyday I die to search those eyes

Dark w/worry

Abandon by a frequent smile

I catch her on good days

So I say "Hi baby!"

Try to sound like a brotha

So I don't say too much

I become accustomed to the head nod

Dancing in my constuction boots

"Baby got back"

Damn I drink Jack's tequila

Recite "Tilting at Wind Mills"

She be my peyote & i'll be constantly high

Hoping today she won't pass me by

Sweet black lady

You keep passing me by

I would love to be the man who would hold yr stare

Forever
